Indicative planning figures — all SUNSHINE shelters and modular units are made to order, so unit counts, layouts, and anchorings are proposed in a project-specific quotation. Accommodation and sanitation inputs follow Sphere Handbook 2018 minimum standards.
Standards and sources
Accommodation and sanitation figures follow the Sphere Handbook 2018 minimum standards: 3.5 m² of covered living area per person for initial disaster response, rising to a 4.5–5.5 m² band in cold climates, and tiered toilet-to-person ratios of 1:50 in the first days, 1:40 for short-term operation, and 1:20 for longer-term operation. Clinical, command, dining, and storage figures are indicative industry planning values — they are honest starting points, and our engineering team confirms them against your medical workflow, rations model, and cargo profile in the quotation.
From areas to units
Because every SUNSHINE shelter is made to order — footprints run from a few square metres to several hundred — the planner deliberately outputs areas and unit requirements rather than a fictitious tent count. Three ways to cover the computed area are shown:
- Z-Fold emergency modular units — approximately 14.6 m² of enclosed floor area each, shipping up to 10 folded units per 40HQ container and installing in roughly 4–5 hours with a crew of 3–4. The planner totals the units, containers, and crew-hours.
- Aluminum-frame shelters — A-Frame and Arch tents span up to 6 m with modular, extendable length; the planner converts your area into an indicative total length at that span.
- Made-to-order inflatable tents — sized exactly to the function list you entered, quoted by dimension and specification.
The site environment check
Enter the site’s temperature extremes, design wind, snow load, and altitude, and the planner compares them against the published ratings of each shelter class. Ratings are quoted exactly as published per product class — classes intentionally differ, and where a figure is not published, or is expressed on a different basis (for example snow as accumulation depth), the result says so instead of guessing. Anything marked for confirmation is checked by our engineers against the final specification, anchoring method, and local code before it appears in a quotation.
